Task-based Mandarin Learning
ABOUT US
Jumpstart’s program is designed inspired by the "Task-Based Learning" and "Kinaesthetic Learning" approaches. It aims to help students build their confidence in communicating in Mandarin through various hands-on activities. By setting up a classroom routine, we create an environment where learners are comfortable in using simple Mandarin to ask and answer questions. They can further access the content-based curriculum such as Chinese story telling, reading, and writing. Jumpstart has carefully incorporated this concept in designing our activities and workshops. Following this guideline, our teachers are able to create a student-centered learning environment.
OUR METHODOLOGY
Jumpstart’s program is designed based on the task-based learning approach. It aims to help students build their confidence in communicating in Mandarin. When learners are comfortable in using simple Mandarin to ask and answer questions, they can further access the content-based curriculum such as Chinese story telling and writing. Jumpstart has carefully incorporated this concept in designing our activities and workshops. Following this guideline, our teachers are able to create a student-centered learning environment and act as a facilitator in various problem-solving activities.
Learning By Doing
Both of our children loved Jumpstart and enthusiastically attended class each day. The benefit to their Mandarin abilities was readily apparent. Both of them successfully tested into bilingual kindergartens despite the fact that Mandarin is not the spoken language in our home. They even enjoy speaking Mandarin with each other. We attribute this to Jumpstart's emersion program and their excellent understanding of how to teach young children.”
